Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra has caused multiple landslides, severely disrupting connectivity between Mumbai and Pune. A major landslide occurred at tunnel number forty on the railway route, prompting the cancellation and diversion of several trains. Railway authorities are conducting clearance operations on a war footing, aiming to restore at least one rail line despite delays caused by the ongoing downpour.
Road travel is equally affected, with two to three landslides blocking both the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Vehicles are currently prohibited from entering the expressway from the Navi Mumbai side, resulting in massive traffic jams at the entrance.
