A tragic incident occurred in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai, where a three-storey chawl collapsed in the evening. The collapse resulted in the deaths of six people, including five children and one woman, while one person was rescued and is undergoing treatment. An overnight rescue operation was conducted at the site.
Following the tragedy, the Maharashtra Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and announced five lakh rupees in aid for the next of kin of the deceased. A local building under construction for the past year was reportedly shaky, prompting some residents to clear out, but a family returned to cook food just before the structure collapsed onto the shanties.
