Heavy monsoon rains have battered Mumbai, throwing normal life out of gear. Landslides have led to the suspension of train services between Mumbai and Pune. Schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are closed, and Mumbai University has postponed its examinations. Transport services, including road and rail networks, are hit across the region.
Although there is currently a temporary respite with lighter rain and less waterlogging in low-lying areas, a red alert has been issued for the next three hours, warning of heavy rain in the Mumbai region.
