(Image: AFP/File) Delhi residents in parts of south, southeast and Lutyens’ Delhi are expected to experience water supply disruptions on Monday and Tuesday as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) undertakes work on two major pipelines, senior government officials said. According to an advisory issued by the NDMC, water supply will remain affected during the evening supply on July 6 and the morning supply on July 7. Areas likely to be impacted include Golf Links, Bharti Nagar, Lodhi Estate, Khan Market, Prithviraj Road, Shahjahan Road, Delhi High Court area, Pandara Road, Jor Bagh, Janpath, Kidwai Nagar, the President’s Estate and the Safdarjung Airport area.
Explaining the work, a senior DJB official said the Greater Kailash main supply line is being connected to a newly laid pipeline as part of the Taimoor Nagar/Maharani Bagh drain expansion project. “The GK main line is being connected to a new line due to the ongoing work on the Taimoor Nagar drain expansion. Widening of the drain is being carried out as per the orders of the Delhi High Court to resolve the waterlogging problems in the southeast Delhi region," the official added. The work follows a May 29 order of the Delhi High Court directing authorities to expedite the construction of the Taimoor Nagar drain boundary wall and connect the newly laid 1,500mm Greater Kailash main pipeline near Khizrabad village with the existing water line. The old pipeline will eventually be removed from the drain entry point leading to the Yamuna. Officials said this work is expected to affect the water supply from the morning of July 6 until the evening of July 7.
Areas likely to be affected due to this work include Asian Games Village, Khel Gaon, Hauz Khas, Gulmohar Park, Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Chhatarpur, Mehrauli, all pockets of Vasant Kunj, Deer Park and nearby localities. Water supply is also expected to be impacted in the catchment areas of the Sarai Kale Khan reservoir, including Sarai Kale Khan, Siddharth Nagar, Ashram, Sunlight Colony-1, Hari Nagar Ashram, Jangpura-B and adjoining areas. Areas served by the Apollo and Sarita Vihar reservoirs, along with East of Kailash, Geetanjali Enclave, Navjeevan Vihar, Saket, Malviya Nagar, Chirag Delhi, IGNOU, Sarvapriya Vihar, GK-2, GK-3, Alaknanda, DDA Flats Kalkaji and CR Park, are also expected to face disruptions. Separately, maintenance work will be carried out on the 1,900mm South Delhi main supply line of the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant. Water supply in the affected catchment areas will remain disrupted for eight hours beginning at 10 am on July 6.
