Delhi Police Probe Newlywed's Mystery Death as Family Alleges Dowry Murder (Photo: X) The mysterious death of a 28-year-old newlywed woman in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony has triggered allegations of dowry harassment and murder by her family, becoming the third such case in recent months to draw national attention. The family of Akriti Sutar has claimed that she was murdered, rejecting the suggestion that she died by suicide. Police said they are investigating the case from all possible angles. As per information, Akriti Sutar got married just two months ago. What do we know about the case? Akriti Sutar, a resident of Pushp Vihar, was found critically injured on Saturday evening after allegedly falling from the third floor of the NDMC Flats at Palika Kunj in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony. The location where she was found is around 10 km from her marital home, and investigators are yet to determine why she had gone there. Residents found her lying on the ground around 9 pm and informed the police.
Though her body had bruises and multiple injuries, no bloodstains were found at the spot. She was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared her dead. Senior south Delhi police officer Anant Mittal said proceedings under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been informed for inquest proceedings. He said all aspects of the incident are being verified and that the investigation is continuing. A post-mortem examination is underway. Family rejects suicide theory Akriti’s family has strongly denied that she died by suicide. They said she had resumed work on July 1 after taking leave for her wedding and had gone to office on Saturday despite being on leave. According to the family, she also hosted a small party for her colleagues before leaving work. Her uncle, Mananjay Sutar, questioned the suicide theory, saying, “If she was unhappy or planning to end her life, why would she celebrate her return to work?" The family said Akriti spoke to her mother around 6 pm on Saturday. During the conversation, she appeared normal, discussed the office gathering and said she was on her way home. Around 8 pm, they received a phone call from her husband, Arastu Sikka, informing them that she had gone missing.
