A murder case in Telangana’s Mancherial district has shocked locals after the police said a woman and her boyfriend conspired to kill her husband for insurance money worth nearly Rs 2 crore. What initially appeared to be a road accident later turned into a suspected murder investigation involving an alleged extramarital affair, family disputes and a planned insurance fraud.
According to the police, the victim, identified as Saini Kumar from Gudipet village in Hajipur mandal, died on May 22 after suffering serious injuries in what was first believed to be a bike accident. He reportedly succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital. However, suspicions raised by Kumar’s family members prompted the police to investigate the case further. During the probe, officials allegedly uncovered evidence suggesting the incident was staged to look like an accident. Investigators found that Kumar’s wife was allegedly in a relationship with another man from the same village. Police claim the two viewed Kumar as an obstacle to their relationship and planned his murder. Officials also said Kumar had multiple insurance policies in his name, and the accused allegedly hoped to claim a large payout in the event of his accidental death.
According to the investigation, the accused allegedly hired others to execute the murder. Police said Kumar was first made to consume excessive alcohol before being taken to an isolated location, where he was allegedly attacked with an iron rod, causing fatal head injuries. To mislead investigators, the accused allegedly abandoned the victim’s bike on the roadside to create the impression of a traffic accident before fleeing the spot. The case took a major turn after Kumar’s mother filed a complaint, leading police to examine call records, technical evidence and the movements of the suspects. Officials said inconsistencies in the wife’s behaviour during questioning further deepened suspicion. They have now registered cases against the victim’s wife, her alleged boyfriend and two others. Three accused have reportedly been arrested and sent to judicial remand, while one suspect remains absconding.
Officials said insurance-related documents and cash were also seized during the investigation.
