Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday reiterated the government’s commitment to its flagship P4 initiative, describing it as a long-term mission to eradicate poverty through sustained mentoring, economic empowerment and community participation rather than conventional welfare measures. Speaking at an interactive session with the P4 ‘Margadarsies’ (mentors) and ‘Bangaru Kutumbams’ (beneficiaries) here, Mr. Naidu said it was designed to assist economically vulnerable families in becoming financially viable and eventually support others in need.
Representatives of the Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), Adani Group and TVS Motor, which adopted the beneficiary families, participated in the programme. The Chief Minister said the government had identified nearly 12 lakh ‘Bangaru Kutumbams’ across the State, while around 1.10 lakh mentors voluntarily come forward to guide and support them. Naidu called on the Bangaru Mitras to closely monitor the progress of the beneficiary households and ensure that interventions translated into solid results in their quality of life.
The Chief Minister said the P4 initiative followed the ‘MBK 10-20’ model, encouraging the top 10% of the financially secure citizens to assist the bottom 20% living in poverty. He said the objective extended beyond the financial assistance to creating sustainable livelihoods, enhancing skills, and improving living standards. The Chief Minister said close to 9,000 ‘Bangaru Kutumbams’ in Kuppam had been entrusted to the Adani Group, TVS Motos, and MEIL for sustained support.
He urged the beneficiary families to value the guidance offered by their mentors and work towards self-reliance. Highlighting the efficacy of inclusive development, Mr. Naidu said economic growth must be accompanied by rising incomes, reduced inequalities and better living conditions.
