(File) As India continues to sizzle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged citizens to stay hydrated and avoid stepping out of the house during afternoon. In a post on X, he advised people to protect themselves from the extreme weather and extend help to others wherever possible. “Temperatures are continuously rising in different parts of the country, and along with this, the many difficulties caused by the heat in daily life are also increasing. I urge all my fellow citizens to take as many precautions as possible," PM’s post reads.
He also added that people should keep checking on elderly parents and grandparents amid the heatwave. The Prime Minister urged citizens to stay hydrated and make it a habit to carry water when stepping out of their homes. “Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes. In such weather, your sensitivity also becomes a great source of support. If possible, do offer a glass of water to anyone who is thirsty," he added. “I also appreciate those people who keep water in pitchers outside their homes and shops so that anyone can drink from them," he said, highlighting the importance of small acts of kindness during the heatwave. Severe Heatwave Conditions Reported According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), severe heatwave conditions were recorded in several parts of Chhattisgarh, while isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh also experienced extreme temperatures. Heatwave conditions were further reported from parts of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, Odisha, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh, indicating a widespread spell of oppressive heat across northern, central and eastern regions of the country. The weather office has forecast that Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi will continue to face heatwave conditions on May 27 and 28. Severe heatwave conditions are also likely in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the IMD said, urging residents to take necessary precautions as the hot spell persists.
