In an initiative to position Bengaluru as a premier destination for cultural tourism, the Karnataka Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy, is preparing to host the internationally acclaimed art exhibition ‘One Mother, Many Mother Tongues’, featuring some of Italy’s most celebrated masterpieces, said V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Commissioner, Department of Tourism.
As part of the preparations, Mr. Manohar met Giandomenico Milano, Consul General of Italy, at Energy Bhavan to discuss the exhibition and explore avenues for strengthening cultural cooperation between India and Italy. “The exhibition will be held at the Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Bengaluru, from August 19 to September 29, 2026. This exhibition will be the only edition hosted in South India,” he said.
India and Italy have officially declared 2027 as the ‘India-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism’. The proposed exhibition in Bengaluru forms part of the broader cultural engagement between the two countries. “The exhibition will feature several internationally renowned works by legendary Italian Renaissance master Alessandro Botticelli, including his celebrated masterpiece ‘Madonna con Bambino’, along with other rare artworks collectively valued at nearly €100 million.
The arrival of these masterpieces in Bengaluru marks a landmark moment in the city’s cultural history and underscores its growing stature as an international arts destination,” Mr. Manohar added.
