Government Busts E20 Petrol Myths Amid Mileage And Engine Damage Concerns

The central government and leading auto industry voices have strongly defended the E20 ethanol-blended petrol mandate amid social media claims suggesting the biofuel damages vehicle engines. Authorities clarified that extensive scientific testing over the years shows no adverse impact on engine performance or durability. Officials addressed concerns regarding fuel efficiency, acknowledging a minor mileage drop of three to five percent due to ethanol's lower energy content, rather than a drastic reduction.
The government also dismissed allegations of excessive water usage and food shortages, stating that only three to five litres of water are required per litre of ethanol and that only surplus grains are utilised for production. While acknowledging that older, non-compliant vehicles may be vulnerable, authorities emphasised that the transition to E20 fuel is designed to reduce crude oil imports, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and boost income for sugarcane farmers.
Future plans for higher blends will require specific engine modifications.
