A shocking incident of kidnap and robbery has emerged from Karimnagar in Telangana, where a twenty-one-year-old degree student, Dinesh Reddy, was arrested for throwing a fifty-five-year-old woman into an agricultural well. According to the police, the accused was heavily addicted to online gambling and had incurred a debt of four lakh rupees. Seeking to clear his debts, he targeted a daily wage labourer named Lakshmi.
He allegedly hired a Rapido bike, took the woman to an isolated agricultural field on the outskirts of Nostalapur village, and robbed her of her gold and silver ornaments. With the intent to kill her and eliminate evidence, he pushed her into a well and cut the rope she was holding. However, the woman, who knew how to swim, miraculously survived the ordeal by clinging to a motor pipeline rope for twenty-one hours.
She was eventually rescued by nearby farmers who heard her cries. Police used CCTV footage and mobile data to track the accused, subsequently recovering the stolen jewellery and issuing a strong warning against online gambling.
