Millions of mourners gathered in Tehran for the week-long funeral procession of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The procession comes four months after his death on February 28 in a joint strike by the United States and Israel. The funeral was previously delayed due to the West Asia war and is now proceeding following a ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Following public display in Tehran, the mortal remains will travel across five cities and two countries. The procession moves to Qom on July 7, then to the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala on July 8, before the final burial in Mashhad, Khamenei's birthplace, on July 9. India Today's Geeta Mohan reports from ground zero, capturing the mood of the Iranian people, including expats flying in from the UK to show solidarity.
Mourners are also paying tribute to the children of Minab who lost their lives in the recent conflict, with citizens demanding accountability.
