Amid water scarcity and a rain deficit across Karnataka, the BWSSB has tightened water rules in Bengaluru, making drinking water wastage a criminal act. Under the new regulations, individuals misusing drinking water for non-essential activities, such as car washes, swimming pools, gardening, or construction, will face a fine of five thousand rupees.
Only treated water is now allowed for these non-drinking uses. Furthermore, the authorities have mandated the installation of aerators to reduce water flow in taps. These strict measures follow reduced inflows in dams, attributed to a deficiency in rainfall and the potential impact of El Niño.
