The automobile industry has firmly defended the central government's E20 blended fuel mandate amid ongoing social media controversies and misinformation. Emphasising that the transition to ethanol-blended petrol follows years of scientific evaluation and regulatory approvals, top industry voices clarified that extensive testing has revealed no adverse effects on vehicle engines. The government has also issued a comprehensive ten-point rebuttal to counter widespread online claims, asserting that trials covering extensive distances in both cars and two-wheelers demonstrated no drivability issues.
Furthermore, the rebuttal dismissed specific social media rumours, clarifying that the fuel does not attract bees, utilises only three to five litres of recycled water per litre of ethanol produced, and relies solely on surplus rice. The transition to blended fuel aims to reduce dependence on crude imports, shield the economy from oil shocks, support sugarcane farmers, and promote cleaner transportation networks across the country.
