'Congress Hates Minorities': Goa Minority Leader's Confession Sparks BJP's 'Vote Bank Politics' Jibe Published By, Last Updated: July 05, 2026, 10:08 IST A video showed Goa Congress Minority Leader Wasim Khan publicly questioning the party's stance on minorities in the presence of KC Venugopal. Rapid Read Goa Congress Minority Chairman Wasim Khan (L) questioned the party's stance on minorities in the presence of KC Venugopal (R). Dramatic scenes unfolded at a Goa Congress event after Wasim Khan, the Minority Chairman of the state party unit, publicly questioned the Congress’ stance on minorities, leading to a heated confrontation with senior leaders, including KC Venugopal. A video went viral showing Wasim Khan publicly questioning the party’s stance on minorities in the presence of Venugopal after the minority cell was reportedly not invited to the event. He claimed the party did not care about the interests of minorities and stated that the minority department should be shut down. Khan later walked out of the event as one of the Congress leaders appeared to escort him out as the situation escalated.
“If they have so much hatred for minorities, then what is going on in Goa Congress? There is no respect for minorities," he told reporters. Khan said he had immense respect for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, but made the remarks out of deep anguish over what he described as the treatment of minorities within the party’s Goa unit. BJP Reacts To Wasim Khan’s Remarks The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a fiery response to Wasim Khan’s public remarks, claiming that Congress does not have any respect for minorities and has always prioritised the interests of the Gandhi family over SCs, STs and women’s rights. “Goa Congress Minority Chairman himself admits, there’s NO respect for minorities in Congress! One leader pushed him out. This is exactly how Congress treats its own minority leaders! Congress has always stood against STs & SCs, stood against women’s rights. The only ones they truly respect? The Gandhi family," said the BJP Goa unit. Goa Congress Minority Chairman himself admits, there’s NO respect for minorities in Congress! One leader pushed him out.

This is why Congress has been a traitorous party, as said by many of their allies. They use their vote bank, they use their allies and then throw them away. They have used minorities as a vote bank but never given them any rights or a place in mainstream development," he added. The incident comes amid a possible churn in the political landscape of Goa after reports surfaced that the Congress state unit is heading for a split, with a group of party members having issued a public notice proposing the registration of a new outfit, the Goa Congress Party.
