Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane are facing severe disruptions due to heavy and incessant rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Maharashtra until July 6, warning of severe weather conditions. According to the transcript, Mumbai has received 80 percent of its expected July rainfall in just four days, with some areas recording between 250 to 300 millimeters of rain in 24 hours.
The torrential downpour has caused extensive waterlogging in low-lying suburbs such as Andheri, Bandra, Worli, and Vile Parle, with water even entering homes in certain locations. The severe weather has significantly impacted public transport infrastructure. Local train services on the Western Railway line are experiencing delays of 10 to 15 minutes due to waterlogged tracks, while major airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories.
Authorities have requested residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary. Despite the disruptions, some areas like Marine Drive continue to attract visitors.
