Ghaziabad and Rampur have become the first two districts in the state to complete the Farmer Registry exercise, achieving 100 per cent registration. Launched on November 5, 2024, the Farmer Registry campaign aims to create an integrated digital database that will enable farmers to receive government benefits more efficiently and transparently. Officials said around 49,98,007 farmers are yet to be registered. The state government has directed district administrations, the Revenue Department, the Agriculture Department and local-level officials to complete the remaining work within the next 90 days, with a target date of September 26, 2026. The digital registry is expected to streamline the delivery of benefits under key schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), crop insurance programmes, agricultural subsidies, institutional credit and other welfare initiatives by ensuring that assistance reaches eligible farmers directly.
Alongside the Farmer Registry, the state is also accelerating the digitisation of land records through the “Ansh Nirdharan" initiative. According to official figures, 87.53 per cent of the exercise has been completed across Uttar Pradesh. Officials said the digitisation of land ownership records is expected to improve the accuracy of revenue records, reduce land-related disputes and strengthen the implementation of agriculture-focused schemes. According to the Agriculture Department, the Farmer Registry will help the government identify genuine beneficiaries, improve monitoring of welfare programmes and support data-driven policymaking for the agricultural sector. The initiative is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s broader push towards technology-driven governance, with a focus on digital services, transparent administration and more efficient implementation of public welfare schemes. Officials believe the Farmer Registry could significantly improve the delivery of agricultural benefits to millions of farmers across the state in the coming years.
