The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two private individuals in Bengaluru in connection with the alleged leakage of the question paper for the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE)-2022 conducted by the South Western Railway for recruitment to the post of Goods Train Manager. The arrests were made on July 3 as part of the agency's ongoing investigation into the alleged examination paper leak. According to the CBI, the two accused are believed to be the key conspirators behind the alleged racket and played a central role in leaking and distributing the question paper to selected candidates before the examination.
Read Full Story The case was initially registered against 23 accused on the basis of a complaint filed by the South Western Railway. The accused have been booked on charges including criminal conspiracy, cheating and offences related to the receipt of illegal gratification by a public servant. During the investigation, the CBI conducted searches at the premises of the two accused, who were subsequently arraigned as additional accused in the case. The agency said the searches led to the recovery of several incriminating documents and electronic devices allegedly used in the fraud.
Among the items seized were scanners, printers, examination-related records and candidate details. Investigators believe the recovered equipment was used to facilitate the leakage and circulation of confidential examination material. BROADER CONSPIRACY SUSPECTED According to the CBI, evidence gathered during the investigation has established links between the two accused and the broader conspiracy to leak the question paper and provide it to select candidates ahead of the recruitment examination. The agency described the arrested individuals as the "kingpins" of the alleged paper leak network, adding that further investigation is underway to identify other beneficiaries and determine the full extent of the conspiracy.
Both accused were produced before the competent court in Bengaluru on July 4. The court remanded them to four days of CBI custody to facilitate further interrogation.
