Heavy rains lashed parts of Belagavi district on Saturday (July 4), kindling hopes among farmers. The four major rain gauges in the district recorded 75 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. However, there were some reports of damage too.
The bridge-cum-barrage on the Hiranyakeshi river at Chandgad near Sankeshwar partially collapsed, leading to all traffic being diverted away from the road. A mud house belonging to Gangubai Varale in Jodakurali village near Chikkodi collapsed on Saturday (July 4) morning.
However, no one was injured as all the inmates came out in time. Revenue Department officials visited the spot. The compound wall of Islamiya school camp collapsed in the camp area at Belagavi. The playground of Government Sardar’s high school was inundated for hours.
Officers said that around 2,000 cusecs of water were released from Maharashtra at the Rajapur barrage gate at the inter-State border. Officers noted slight increase in inflow in the rivers Krishna, Dudhganga, Vedanga, Malaprabha and Hiranyakeshi.
