Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy underscored that the need for meaningful judicial reforms which would further strengthen the justice delivery system in a democratic country. The Minister was addressing the Legal Conclave organised by the Indian Youth Congress at FAPCCI where he said that democratic values could flourish only when both the government and the judiciary function effectively within their respective constitutional domains while maintaining a healthy institutional balance.
The conclave saw the participation of lawyers, law students and Youth Congress leaders from across the country to deliberate on constitutional values, strengthening the judiciary, safeguarding democracy and other contemporary
legal issues. Venkatswamy said that reforms have been introduced over time in various sectors, including politics and the media, and stressed that similar discussions should take place on necessary reforms
within the judiciary. He noted that governments tend to become stronger when judicial institutions are weak, making it imperative to maintain a proper balance between the executive and the judiciary.
