R. Rajagopal, former editor of The Telegraph, has received his renewed passport, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said on Saturday. Satheesan had written to his West Bengal counterpart Suvendu Adhikari following the public outcry over Mr. Rajagopal being unable to get his passport following an adverse verification report by the Kolkata police.
Rajagopal’s name had been removed from the West Bengal electoral roll during the special intensive revision (SIR). Satheesan said on Saturday Mr. Rajagopal had informed his office that he had got his passport renewed.
In a letter to the Kerala Chief Minister, he said the issue had caused him considerable anxiety and uncertainty. The intervention by Mr. Satheesan’s office
had reinforced his faith that responsive public institutions can make a profound difference in people’s lives, Mr. Rajagopal said.
