Six tourists were rescued after they lost their way and got stranded in dense fog while coming down from Tandulwadi fort in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Saturday. The rescue operation was carried out by a team from Saphale police station after the group called the 112 emergency helpline on Friday evening, Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said. Deshmukh said, "On July 3, a group of six tourists comprising four men and two women from Nalasopara, Virar, and Dahanu had gone for an excursion to the Tandulwadi fort.
While descending the fort, they lost their way due to torrential rains, heavy fog, and slippery tracks, and became stranded in the dense jungle area." Read Full Story After receiving the distress call through the Dial 112 system, a team from Saphale police station, including sub-inspector Kailas Khade and constables Ramesh Chaudhari, Hari Chaudhari and Laxman Bhoye, was sent to Tandulwadi. The team coordinated with police patil Sujit Patil and mobilised a rescue group from the village to climb up the fort, the official said.
Braving bad weather, thick fog and slippery routes, the rescue team traced all six tourists, brought them down safely to Tandulwadi village and later escorted them to Saphale railway station. The tourists were identified as students of Dandekar College in Palghar, Deshmukh said. Deshmukh said, "All citizens and tourists are urged to strictly adhere to safety rules while visiting mountains, forts, waterfalls, and remote tourist spots during the monsoon season.
In case of any emergency, citizens must immediately contact the Dial 112 helpline for prompt assistance." The six tourists were safely rescued after losing their way in difficult monsoon conditions on the fort. Ends
