(X/@SrinagarAirport) The proposed weekly closure of Srinagar Airport has been withdrawn, providing relief to passengers, airlines and the tourism sector. Authorities announced that there will be no full airfield closure on Mondays and Tuesdays, as had been proposed earlier through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). According to an operations update issued by the airport, flight operations will continue on all days, with operational and watch hours remaining from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
However, night-time runway closures for scheduled maintenance will continue until October 2026. “The previously proposed NOTAM regarding full runway closure on Mondays and Tuesdays is being withdrawn. Airlines will continue to update their schedules in accordance with the prevailing operational timings," the airport said in its advisory. CM Abdullah Welcomes Move The decision was welcomed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who thanked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu for reconsidering the proposal. In a post on X, Abdullah wrote, “Grateful to the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Sb & Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for acceding to our request and suspending the airport closure order. This closure had created a lot of difficulties for regular travellers & forced tour groups/tourists to cancel planned visits." The withdrawal of the proposed closure is expected to ensure uninterrupted connectivity to the Kashmir Valley during the peak travel season while allowing runway maintenance work to continue during night hours.
