A regional party unit in Salem has passed a resolution backing its chief to contest the upcoming assembly by-election from an assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu. The resolution urges the party chief to fight the by-poll and subsequently assume the role of the state Deputy Chief Minister, reflecting the wishes of the party cadre.
Although the party chief has previously clarified that he will not contest the by-election, local leaders assert that the resolution aligns with public sentiment. Additionally, demands are growing within another party for its leader to contest the same vacant assembly seat, which was previously vacated by the state Chief Minister.
