Heavy monsoon rains have lashed Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and surrounding suburbs, resulting in severe waterlogging and massive traffic snarls across the city. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai and adjoining districts, including Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. Key areas such as the Andheri subway, Worli Sea Link, King Circle, Bandra, and Ghatkopar highway are experiencing significant water accumulation, with waist-deep water reported in parts of Thane.
The persistent downpour has put the city's drainage system under severe pressure, raising concerns about the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's preparedness for the monsoon season. Civic authorities are on high alert, advising commuters to avoid non-essential travel, especially during high tide. Despite the disruption to road transport and slow traffic movement, railway public relations officers have confirmed that local train services on both the Central and Western Railway lines continue to run on schedule without any major disruptions.
