Heavy rains have lashed Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, leading to severe waterlogging across several areas on a Saturday morning. Commuters are facing significant inconvenience as streets and low-lying areas are inundated with waist-deep water. Visuals from Thane show residents wading through flooded roads and struggling with stalled motorcycles. An underpass in Sant Gadge is also experiencing severe waterlogging.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The recurrent flooding exposes the inadequate monsoon preparedness of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the state administration, contradicting their annual claims of readiness. Despite repeated assurances, the ground reality remains unchanged year after year, leaving citizens to navigate flooded streets and persistent infrastructure failures during the monsoon season.
