At least five passengers sustained minor injuries, according to BMTC officials, after a BMTC bus operated by OHM Mobility and a Tata Smart Mobility electric bus were involved in a rear-end collision near K.R. Circle in Bengaluru on July 4 morning. According to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), the accident occurred around 8.30 a.m. when the OHM Mobility-operated BMTC bus, bearing vehicle number AQ 4163, was heading from Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) to Attibele on Schedule No. 360B/15.
As the bus was moving ahead from the K.R. Circle traffic signal, it was allegedly hit from behind by a Tata Smart Mobility electric bus from Depot-3, bearing registration number KA-03-AJ-6163. BMTC stated that all passengers travelling in the OHM Mobility-operated bus were unhurt. However, five passengers travelling in the Tata Smart Mobility bus suffered minor injuries, and were shifted to St. Martha's Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Tata Smart Mobility bus also sustained injuries in the accident, and is undergoing treatment.
Officials said his condition is stable. Both damaged buses were removed from the accident site, allowing normal traffic movement to resume. Senior BMTC officials, including the Divisional Controller concerned, along with representatives from Tata Smart Mobility, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. They supervised the rescue operation, and ensured that the injured passengers and the driver were shifted to a hospital without delay. Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh, Transport Secretary Deepa Cholan, and BMTC Managing Director Raghunandan Murthy, later visited St. Martha's Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured persons.
BMTC stated that it is extending all necessary assistance to the injured persons, and their families. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. An investigation has been initiated by the authorities. BMTC electric bus crashes into stationary Vayu Vajra bus
