Ayodhya Police have achieved a breakthrough in the Ram Mandir donation theft case following the confession of Avinash Shukla, one of the eight arrested accused. During a 13-hour police custody remand, Shukla admitted to habitually stealing temple offerings after officers confronted him with 45 days of CCTV footage. He revealed that the accused individuals were aware of each other's roles and held meetings in isolated areas to coordinate the thefts.
Shukla confessed to using the stolen donation money to purchase a second-hand Brezza SUV in the name of his brother, Abhishek Shukla, a government teacher, to avoid suspicion. Following the surfacing of the scam, the vehicle was moved from Ayodhya to Pratapgarh. Based on the information provided during the interrogation, Ayodhya Police recovered the SUV, bearing registration number UP 42 AP 6054.
Previously, police had seized over 20 lakh rupees in cash from Shukla, making him the main accused in the temple donation theft case.
