The central government is continuously monitoring below-normal rainfall and potential drought conditions across certain parts of the country due to the El Nino effect. With June witnessing a forty percent rainfall deficit nationwide and central regions being the worst affected with over a fifty percent deficit, the country has recorded the fifth-lowest rainfall in June since nineteen hundred and one.
The monthly average rainfall for July is also forecasted to remain below normal. In response, ministries have been directed to remain vigilant and advise farmers on appropriate low-water crops that can be sown. Urban areas like Mumbai also face severe water crises as reservoirs remain insufficient.
