Her tiny coffin, draped in Iran’s tricolour flag and placed beside Khamenei’s casket, drew the attention of mourners paying their respects at the Grand Mosalla. A framed photograph of the infant was displayed alongside the coffin as visitors paused in silence. The memorial also honoured other members of Khamenei’s family killed in the strike, including his son-in-law, his eldest daughter and the wife of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
Their coffins were displayed alongside Khamenei’s before the start of the official state funeral. Emotional scenes unfolded during the ceremony, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian seen in tears while paying tribute. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, senior military commanders, religious leaders and foreign delegations also paid their tributes. The funeral procession for Khamenei officially began in Tehran as thousands of people dressed in black gathered to offer their final respects ahead of the state funeral scheduled to begin on Saturday. The public funeral ceremonies would be held in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6, and 7. The burial will take place in the city of Mashhad on July 9. Ahead of the ceremonies, Iranian state media reported that Khamenei’s coffin was taken to the site where he was killed during an unannounced event.
