An Indigo Airbus A320 made aviation history in India on June 27th by landing at Udaipur using GAGAN, the country's satellite-based augmentation system, instead of the conventional ground-based instrument landing system. Developed jointly by ISRO and the Airports Authority of India, GAGAN corrects GPS signals in real-time to provide highly accurate and reliable navigation data.
This landing marks the first time a commercial passenger jet in India completed a landing using GAGAN guidance. The indigenous technology offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive ground infrastructure, enabling precision-like landings, reducing flight diversions, and improving air connectivity at regional airports across India.
