Member of Parliament and e Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has urged Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire into the Naregal group clash and sought action against the Haveri Superintendent of Police. Speaking to press persons in Haveri on Friday, Mr. Bommai alleged that law and order was “dead” in Haveri district because of which around seven communal clashes had happened in a single year.
He alleged that the Naregal group clash was owing to the failure of the police. Referring to the police version of the incident, that it was a case of personal rivalry, he sought to know on what basis the police had drawn such an inference. “The SP has taken the issue very lightly. Efforts are being made to mislead and cover up the issue.
So action should be taken against the SP, and the Hangal police inspector and the sub-inspector should be suspended”, he said. Bommai said that the group clash was the result of appeasement politics. Due to this, cases had been filed against the victims of the clash. The continuance of such appeasement would not be tolerated from here onwards, he warned. He also said that the BJP would take the issue to a logical end.
First, all the injured should be treated properly, and they should return home at the earliest, Mr. Bommai said. “If no action is taken against officials, then we will launch an agitation in Haveri and Hangal. A legal fight will also be launched,” he said.
