YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy reiterated that Amaravati was steeped in corruption and that Mavigun wasa viable and better option that would barely cost 10% of what was being spent on the greenfield capital city under construction. He asserted that Mavigun (Machilipatnam - Vijayawada - Guntur region) has superior road, rail and air connectivity and ready-to-occupy infrastructure, which makes it a cost-effective project. Addressing media persons at the YSRCP central office on Friday, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had clarified the party’s stand on Mavigun and explained how it scores over Amaravati in multiple aspects.
He stated that the constructions being made in Amaravati were unreliable due to the soil conditions, while recalling that the Sivaramakrishnan Committee had observed that the agricultural land in Amaravati was not fit for construction. Jagan Mohan Reddy was firm that the capital should come up on government land, he said, alleging that Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, who spoke about an inclusive capital and made many tall claims about Kurnool, yielded to ‘Mr. Chandrababu’s designs’.
The YSRCP leader further said the loan burden entailed by Amaravati would be exorbitant and that the public debt would be unbearable for future generations, while being a ready-for-development concept, Mavigun would be an economical, viable and feasible project. He said that Mr. Naidu was not in a position to explain how Amaravati was a self-financing project and why he borrowed over ₹47,000 crore. The huge borrowings could instead be used for welfare activities, he said, adding that the Amaravati farmers approached him for justice as Mr. Chandrababu Naidu failed to keep his promises.
In spite of the recent attack on its leaders at Penumaka, the YSRCP would continue to fight for the farmers’ cause, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy said.
