The Punjab Congress is facing internal friction after the high command decided to retain Raja Warring as the state unit president and Partap Singh Bajwa as the leader of the opposition. Charanjit Singh Channi has been appointed as the campaign committee in charge but is reportedly dissatisfied with the decision. An observers committee comprising Ajay Maken and Meenakshi Natarajan had previously submitted a report, which sources indicate contained negative feedback regarding Raja Warring's tenure.
Despite this feedback, the current leadership was maintained, leading to resentment within the Charanjit Singh Channi camp and confusion over overlapping responsibilities among newly formed committees. Both Raja Warring and Charanjit Singh Channi are considered close to Rahul Gandhi, complicating the situation. Analysts suggest that the ongoing infighting is fundamentally a battle for the chief ministerial candidacy in the upcoming Punjab elections, as the state president traditionally assumes the chief minister's role if the party secures a victory.
