Rapid Read AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal alleged a cover-up in the Shri Ram Mandir donation theft case. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the alleged irregularities linked to the Shri Ram Mandir, accusing the government of trying to suppress the issue instead of taking action against those responsible. Speaking at a press conference in Goa with AAP Goa in-charge Atishi, Kejriwal claimed the resignations, arrests, FIRs and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in the case were only meant to create the impression that action was being taken, while the “real culprits" continued to remain untouched. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust was constituted by the Centre and that its members, including Trust chief Champat Rai, were appointed under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
Kejriwal asked how the alleged irregularities could have gone unnoticed. pointed out that it seems the Prime Minister was protecting those responsible despite the revelations of scam in land transactions Kejriwal Links Latest Allegations To Earlier Land Deals Kejriwal said the controversy did not begin with the alleged theft of offerings but went back to the land transactions that came under scrutiny in 2021. He referred to allegations that land purchased for ₹2 crore was later sold to the Trust for ₹18 crore within minutes and claimed there were several other transactions in which land was bought at prices far higher than its original value. He also alleged that irregularities surfaced during the temple’s construction, claiming engineers had earlier raised concerns over commissions in contracts. Referring to the latest allegations, Kejriwal claimed devotees’ offerings, including cash, silver bricks, ornaments and jewellery, had gone missing. He further alleged that CCTV footage showed repeated incidents of theft and claimed several months of footage had been deleted.
Questions SIT And Arrests The AAP chief alleged that the SIT formed to probe the matter had no real powers and questioned its effectiveness. He claimed that when AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh submitted documents related to the alleged land transactions, the SIT said those issues did not fall within its scope. Kejriwal also questioned the arrests made in the case, that only lower-level employees had been taken into custody while no action had been initiated against those he claimed were the main beneficiaries. According to him, the FIR, arrests and resignations were “symbolic" steps meant to deflect public attention rather than uncover the full truth. Seeks Answers From Centre Kejriwal said people across the country wanted to know who was being protected and why no action had been taken against those allegedly involved in the larger scam. He also claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had not visited the Shri Ram Mandir for darshan since its inauguration despite frequently referring to Lord Ram in public speeches.
