The Alappuzha District Collector has ordered the closure of SNVLP School, Thumpoly, till July 21 after several cases of mumps have been confirmed among students. The Collector ordered the temporary closure based on a report submitted by the district medical officer recommending that the school be closed for the 21-day incubation period, according to an official release issued on Friday (July 3, 2026). The deputy director of education has been directed to make the necessary arrangements for conducting classes online during the closure. The order also instructs the Health and the Local Self-Government departments to jointly implement preventive measures to curb the spread of mumps in schools.
