India's food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has pulled up six popular energy drink brands over claims displayed on their packaging. The regulator clarified that there is no official food category designated as energy drinks under current rules. Brands making unverified health or performance claims, such as boosting energy, sharpening focus, or fighting weakness, are under scrutiny.
The FSSAI is demanding that companies either provide scientific and legal approval to back these claims or modify their product labelling. While this regulatory action is a truth in labelling crackdown rather than a ban, it requires companies to ensure accuracy in their marketing and packaging.
