The first batch of pilgrims has officially embarked on the fifty-seven-day annual Amarnath Yatra, heading toward the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine in South Kashmir. Devotees are traveling through the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam track and the 14-kilometre Baltal route. Despite rainfall, dropping temperatures, and prevalent terror threats in the region, hundreds of pilgrims have begun their journey undeterred. To ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage, stringent security measures are in place, with paramilitary personnel deployed along the routes to maintain a strict cordon.
The government has urged devotees to follow five resolutions focused on cleanliness, safety, environmental conservation, economic support, and national service. The local administration is closely overseeing the arrangements, establishing fresh base camps and rectifying tracks after the winter snow. The pilgrimage, which continues until the end of August, stands as a prominent symbol of religious unity in the region, drawing devotees from across the country to the Himalayas.
