The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has entered the final phase of reorganising its national organisation under newly appointed national president Nitin Navin, with a series of high-level meetings in Delhi indicating that the party could soon announce its new national team. The organisational exercise has also triggered speculation about a possible expansion and reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet once the new party structure is in place. Read Full Story Political discussions gathered momentum after BJP national president Nitin Navin held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday that lasted for more than three hours. According to party sources, the leaders held detailed discussions on finalising the BJP's new national team. Sources said the party has nearly completed the process of selecting its new organisational leadership and could announce the national team at any time. The BJP considers the new team crucial for preparing its strategy for upcoming Assembly elections as well as the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. According to party sources, Nitin Navin had sought recommendations from almost all state units while preparing the new organisational structure.
State leaderships submitted names of potential leaders for various organisational positions, following which the party prepared a comprehensive list of candidates for national-level posts. Sources said the leadership discussed these names until late Wednesday night and has now reached the final stage, with only formal approval from the top leadership and an official announcement remaining. The BJP views the new national team as more than a routine organisational reshuffle. The leadership believes the new office-bearers will play a key role in framing strategies for Assembly elections across several states and strengthening the party's organisational structure ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. The party has therefore focused on maintaining regional, social and political balance while selecting the new leadership. Senior party leaders also believe that the completion of the organisational exercise could pave the way for a major expansion and reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet. Sources said discussions on the ministerial changes have already taken place over multiple rounds in recent weeks. According to the sources, the government aims to give the Council of Ministers a new shape before the likely Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The exercise could include changes in portfolios of some senior ministers and the induction of new faces. The leadership is also considering giving greater representation to states that will face Assembly elections in the near future. Punjab has emerged as one of the states under discussion. According to party sources, Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Ravneet Singh Bittu is preparing to contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, raising the possibility of his exit from the Union Cabinet. If that happens, discussions have intensified within the BJP over who could represent Punjab in the Cabinet. Party sources said senior BJP leader Tarun Chugh could be inducted into the PM Modi Cabinet. The BJP recently appointed Kewal Singh Dhillon as the Punjab BJP president to provide representation to the Sikh community, while Tarun Chugh is being considered as a Hindu face for the Union Council of Ministers. The recent organisational changes in the Delhi BJP could also have an impact on the Union Cabinet. According to sources, Harsh Malhotra may exit the Cabinet after becoming the Delhi BJP president.
