We are learning more this week after authorities who were serving a search warrant at an Ohio home found 16 children living in deplorable conditions. The kids were reportedly found surrounded by human waste and confined to one room for the past several years. LiveNOW’s Alexandra Goldberg is speaking with defense attorney Jeremy Rosenthal as investigators say four adults have been charged with 17 counts of endangering children related to the case.
LiveNOW is also learning more about the lifelong challenges these children might face with Darcy Olsen from the Center for the Rights of Abused Children. "Most of our livestock was kept in better conditions than the children," Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain said. "Just a disgusting scene." Seven of the children were taken to hospitals in Columbus, while two were flown by helicopter.
One was in critical condition on Tuesday. Others have been admitted for further treatment. "It’s the type of thing that we’re not used to seeing here in America," Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said. "They looked like almost feral animals. It was terrible."
