Bengaluru Police have made the first arrest in the alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare operating inside Capgemini’s campus in the city. The arrested woman, identified as Vijayalaxmi, was employed at the facility and is the same person seen in the video related to the incident. Police have booked her under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
Further investigation into the case is underway. Police have also issued notices to the day care employees seen in the video, directing them to appear before the investigating officer. Three employees were questioned on Thursday as part of the probe. Investigators also spoke to several parents on Thursday as the investigation continued. What Is The Case? The alleged abuse came to light after videos showing toddlers being subjected to abuse surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage and triggering a police investigation. A complaint was also received through the children’s helpline, prompting the District Child Protection Unit to initiate an inquiry. According to authorities, the daycare centre was operating inside Capgemini’s Bengaluru campus and catered to the children of the company’s employees.
The videos, which were later submitted to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, allegedly show children as young as two years old being subjected to abuse. Some of the clips reportedly show toddlers being made to sit inside a washing machine while water is sprayed at them using a jet. Other videos allegedly show children being locked inside bathrooms. Meanwhile, Capgemini said the health, safety and well-being of its employees and their families remain its highest priority. The company said it is fully cooperating with the investigation and has temporarily shut the daycare facility as a precautionary measure.
