(AFP photo) Iran’s judiciary on Tuesday suspended a panel led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, just a day after it approved the restoration of internet access after months of near-total blackout since the war with the United States and Israel. The decision, reported by the judiciary’s Mizan Online website, targeted the “Special Headquarters for Organising and Governing the Country’s Cyberspace", a body created on May 12 by Pezeshkian.
The court said the suspension followed the “filing of complaints", though it did not say who had submitted them. On Monday, Pezeshkian had ordered the restoration of international internet access in Iran. While the presidential panel moved to ease restrictions, final power rests with the Supreme Security Council, which has ultimate control over national security decisions, including internet access. Iran Sees Partial Internet Restoration: NetBlocks Meanwhile, shortly after the judiciary’s suspension order, internet watchdog NetBlocks reported that connectivity is gradually returning in Iran after an 88-day nationwide blackout. In a post on X, the monitoring group said live data showed a partial restoration of internet access on day 88, ending around 2,093 hours of near-total isolation from global networks.

It is unclear if the restoration will be sustained," the post said. Iran first imposed sweeping internet restrictions during anti-government protests in early January. The shutdown was tightened again on February 28, when the war with the United States and Israel began. Since then, most citizens have been limited to domestic platforms and Iran’s internal intranet, with only partial access for selected professional groups under a tiered “Pro Internet" system introduced in recent weeks.
