Penny Wong also said she expected to meet PM Modi, describing India as an “essential economic partner" for Australia. “We are comprehensive strategic partners. We have a relationship that is anchored in strategic trust," she said, adding that cooperation between the two countries continues to deepen across trade, technology and supply chains.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar described the discussions as productive, noting that the group focused on ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime trade routes in the Indo-Pacific region. Following the meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new Indo-Pacific maritime surveillance initiative aimed at improving real-time information sharing among Quad nations. The ministers also unveiled an Indo-Pacific energy security initiative designed to strengthen fuel supply chains across the region, with the United States set to host a Quad fuel security forum later this year.
