Delhi: Snabbit Worker Held After Using Fake Rape Case To Extort Rs 5 Lakh From Customer Published By, Last Updated: July 02, 2026, 22:59 IST Police further alleged that the worker threatened to ensure the registration of a rape case and implicate the family in criminal proceedings if the money was not paid. Rapid Read A Snabbit housekeeper was arrested after Delhi Police alleged she demanded ₹5 lakh from a Dwarka resident to withdraw a rape complaint. A woman employed through the home services platform Snabbit has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly attempting to extort money from a 56-year-old man in Dwarka after accusing him of rape, officials said. According to police, a PCR call was received at 1:22 pm on June 30 at Sector-23 Dwarka Police Station from Pooja Giri, a resident of Kapashera.
Giri, who works as a house-cleaning professional through Snabbit, told police that she had been assigned a service booking at 12:30 pm at a flat in Dwarka. Police said Giri reached the residence at around 12:10 pm, where she met the customer, identified as J.K. Bhardwaj, 56, who works in the private sector in Gurugram. In her complaint, she alleged that after completing the cleaning assignment, Bhardwaj came from behind, grabbed her and raped her. She claimed she managed to escape the house, informed her supervisors, and called the emergency helpline on their advice. During the inquiry, police recorded statements of those involved and examined available electronic evidence, including CCTV footage, mobile phone conversations and other digital material. According to the police investigation, the evidence did not support the woman’s allegations.
Instead, investigators alleged that after making the complaint, Giri contacted Bhardwaj’s son and demanded Rs 5 lakh to settle the matter and refrain from pursuing the rape allegations. Police further alleged that she threatened to ensure the registration of a rape case and implicate the family in criminal proceedings if the money was not paid. During the inquiry, a meeting was allegedly arranged between the parties, during which Giri accepted Rs 2 lakh as part of the demanded amount. Police said the exchange of money was separately recorded on an electronic device by Bhardwaj. Based on the available material, investigators concluded that the woman had allegedly placed the family under fear of criminal prosecution and damage to their reputation in order to dishonestly obtain money. Following a complaint by Bhardwaj, Delhi Police registered a case against Giri under Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), dealing with extortion.
