A debate has erupted over the investigation into the alleged theft at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Congress national spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa questioned the credibility of the Uttar Pradesh government's Special Investigation Team, demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe. Kalappa expressed concern that the SIT would only catch minor culprits while the 'big fish actually escape', drawing parallels to the Sabarimala case and historical temple looting.
In response, BJP national spokesperson Rohan Gupta defended the ongoing investigation, stating that seven individuals have already been arrested and twenty lakh rupees recovered. Gupta emphasized the government's commitment to holding all culprits accountable, accusing the Congress party of politicizing an issue of faith. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Arvind Kumar Jain expressed confidence in the current SIT, noting that interrogations are being closely monitored, while also suggesting improved security and verification protocols for temple trust appointees.
