The investigation into the alleged donation theft at the Ayodhya Ram temple is escalating into a major political conflict. The Congress party has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the embezzlement, writing to the Prime Minister and arguing that the state government's Special Investigation Team investigation is merely an eyewash to shield senior figures.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team has questioned several temple trust officials and arrested multiple individuals. Investigators are examining administrative and financial irregularities within the trust, including unaudited jewellery donations and an unauthorised donation chest. A local bar association has also filed a police complaint against trust functionaries, as the trust prepares to decide the future of its members.
