A massive political row has erupted in Tamil Nadu over allegations of horse-trading and poaching by the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam. The controversy follows the defection of former AIADMK ministers, including C. Vijayabaskar and M.R. Vijayabaskar, to the TVK. During a panel discussion on India Today, opposition leaders accused the ruling TVK of acting as a washing machine for corrupt politicians. TVK spokesperson Felix Gerald vehemently defended the party, questioning why the DMK government failed to penalise these leaders during their five-year tenure.
He stated that the leaders were leaving because of weak leadership under Edappadi Palaniswami. In response, AIADMK spokesperson Apsara Reddy dismissed the defections as personal career choices, asserting the strength of AIADMK's grassroots cadres and urging Chief Minister Vijay to focus on governance. Meanwhile, political analyst Harish Mohamed Ibrahim criticised the TVK for allegedly attacking constitutional norms and making promises to defecting MLAs. The debate underscores the intense political turf war in the state as TVK faces backlash over inducting tainted leaders while claiming to offer a corruption-free administration.
