A special broadcast discusses the implementation of Delhi's newly updated electric vehicle policy and its potential impact on vehicular pollution. The policy introduces a strict deadline to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles, transitioning towards electric alternatives. To support this adoption, the government plans to establish 32,000 charging points by March 2030 and offers financial benefits, including subsidies and scrapping incentives directly transferred to buyers.
The administration is also transitioning its entire fleet, including public transport and municipal vehicles, to electric power. Additionally, a comprehensive winter action plan has been announced early to replace the Graded Response Action Plan. This strategy mandates restrictions from November to February, including a complete ban on outdoor construction and the entry of commercial vehicles below the BS6 emission standard.
The initiative involves coordination with neighbouring states and various civic agencies to tackle pollution year-round, improve waste management, and enhance the city's overall drainage infrastructure.
