If you want an all-wheel-drive (AWD) electric SUV without spending luxury-car money, the newly launched Tata Sierra EV now occupies a segment of one. Priced at Rs 25.99 lakh (e showroom) for the top-spec Empowered A AWD variant, it is currently the only mid-size electric SUV in India to offer dual-motor AWD for under Rs 26 lakh. Read Full Story While rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, MG ZS EV, MG Windsor EV and VinFast VF 7 compete in the same space, none offers an AWD configuration at this price point. Built on Tata.ev's new Acti.ev+ architecture, the Sierra EV is the second Tata electric SUV after the Harrier EV to feature a dual-motor setup. The flagship variant combines a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with a front induction motor, producing 203bhp and 504Nm of peak torque.
With Boost Mode activated, Tata claims a 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.8 seconds. The AWD system brings genuine off-road capability with six terrain modes comprising Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom. Other dedicated off-road features include Off-road Assist, low-speed cruise control, over 50 per cent restart gradability and 204mm ground clearance. The Sierra EV also gets a 540-degree HD camera system with an underbody transparent view, Adaptive Turn Cameras and a Blind Spot View Monitor to aid difficult terrain. Powering the AWD version is Tata's larger 75kWh battery pack, which delivers a claimed MIDC driving range of 625km. Tata says the Sierra EV can offer more than 500km of real-world range under typical driving conditions. The SUV supports up to 120kW DC fast charging, adding up to 263km of range in 15 minutes, while a 20-80 per cent charge takes around 26 minutes.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging are also supported. Beyond its powertrain, the Sierra EV packs an extensive feature list. The cabin is dominated by Tata's Horizon View triple-screen setup, with three 12.3-inch displays serving as the instrument cluster, infotainment screen and front passenger display. The passenger screen supports AirConsole gaming, making the Sierra EV the first car in India to offer the platform. Other highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, JBL Black 12-speaker audio with Dolby Atmos, panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, Boss Mode, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, head-up display with augmented navigation, Auto Park Assist, Summon Mode, DrivePay in-car UPI payments, native 5G connectivity and over-the-air software updates. Practicality has not been overlooked either. The Sierra EV offers a 622-litre boot that expands to 1,257 litres with the rear seats folded, along with a 55-litre front trunk for storing charging cables.
