Hours after the Congress announced its new organisational team for Punjab ahead of the Assembly elections, Chandigarh MP and former Union minister Manish Tewari posted a cryptic message on X, fuelling chatter over his exclusion from the party's revamped state unit. Tewari's post came in response to a media report highlighting that his name was missing from the newly constituted Punjab Congress team. When contacted by India Today TV, he declined to elaborate, saying his social media post conveyed everything he intended to say. Read Full Story Without naming anyone, Tewari appeared to suggest that "being talented" had become a demerit. "It seems having a talent is the greatest fault of all.
Wish I had an antidote for the insecurities of individuals and institutions! Having said that @INCIndia has given me enough over the past 45 years and I have also devoted my entire adult life in the service of the Indian Congress over the decades. Que sera, sera, Whatever will be, will be," Tiwari wrote. The post has drawn attention as Tewari's name does not figure in the organisational list, which included nearly 20 senior Punjab Congress leaders, among them several MPs and MLAs. A senior Congress leader, speaking to India Today TV on the condition of anonymity, said Tewari was never in contention for the top organisational post but was surprised by his complete exclusion from the consultation process.
"He has represented Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib in Parliament, served as a Union minister, and held significant responsibilities in Punjab. Yet, he was not consulted at any stage of the exercise," the leader said. Before finalising the organisational overhaul, the Congress leadership held multiple rounds of consultations with Punjab leaders at Indira Bhawan. A panel of observers headed by Ajay Maken was also constituted for Punjab and submitted its recommendations to the party leadership. Although Tewari did not identify the 'individuals' mentioned in his post, the reorganisation process was overseen by Rahul Gandhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi held extensive consultations with Punjab leaders, with senior leadership also conducting one-on-one meetings with several leaders, including Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Vijay Inder Singla, Partap Singh Bajwa and Amar Singh.
Six of the Congress' seven MPs from Punjab have been included in the new organisational team. They are Charanjit Singh Channi, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Amar Singh, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Dharamvira Gandhi. A veteran Congress leader with more than four decades in public life, Tewari has represented Ludhiana, Anandpur Sahib and now Chandigarh in Parliament. He won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Chandigarh under the Congress-AAP alliance and previously served as the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister in the UPA government. Ends
